If Hester Prynne had participated in social media, would she have been stigmatized so?

She would have been globally stigmatized, and with remarkable speed. There was a recent movie Easy A about a pretty but mysteriously unpopular high school girl who fakes a loss of virginity and then sews a red A onto her sexy black dress. Of course that led to instant popularity, helped along by social media.
It's a mediocre movie. The Scarlet Letter will always make me think of junior year English class with Steve Toth, which I took with Ted. The Scarlet Letter was his favorite book, we spent weeks on it. He considered himself a world expert and knew a lot about its structure, etc. But he thought the point was that Hester got what she deserved !
I fully agree with Mike. Her rate of stigmatization would have only sped up not decreased!
